Bangkok Weather is well know for its hot temperatures, sunny days and tropical monsoon conditions, its patterns attributed to its geographical latitude (the same as Khartoum and Guatemala City). Bangkok not only holds claim to being the hottest city in the world, but is also renowned for being equally hot and humid.
Weather in Bangkok is quite consistent with abundant sunshine, sizzling temperatures staying well above 30 degree centigrade during the day and above 20 degrees centigrade in the evenings. During the summer months from March through to May one can expect mercury to rise as high as 40 degree centigrade, forcing locals and visitors alike to seek some much needed relief in the three day long Songkran water fight festival that coincides with the arrival of the new year.
Bangkok Weather is marred by its prolonged dry spells between the months between November–February, and as a result the city is at its busiest when tourists choose to holiday. Humidity levels rise during this dry period causing April –May and September-October to become particularly muggy and steamy, especially during the day. On the up side, nights are slightly better as temperatures cool by a few degree.
Another characteristic of this tropical city is Bangkok’s monsoon season. The Southwest monsoons make an appearance between May and October with a welcoming relief including night precipitation.
Understandably, conditions during the wet Bangkok weather season are dominated by heavy showers. Usually lasting for approximately 30 minutes, and are usually followed by thunder and drizzling rainfall for most of the day. The city sees around 90 percent precipitation annually during these months. Despite the rainfalls there is still an abundance of sunshine and clear skies. Nevertheless the risk of rain in Bangkok is well counteracted by the large quantity of indoor activities, aquariums and temples to be visited. However, if you are visiting the temples be sure to wear suitable attire.
According to a popular believe, December and January are considered to experience the finest weather patterns of the year. This is in fact a misconception, as Bangkok Weather retains its humid disposition, as mercury falls slightly but still hovers around the 20 degrees centigrade mark. In comparison to the rest of the year though, this is definitely the perfect time to take in the abundance of sights this city has to offer.
